![]() ![]() ![]() I'm digging the battles although I'm hoping it'll open up, but if not that's fine. I don't need to mash a button praying they'll shut the fuck up because it just organically flows then wraps up when needed. I love that characters say what they need to say yet you can get a full idea of their personalities. Especially after coming from the exhausting stop-go nature of FFXVI. Story-wise, it's refreshing to experience an JRPG with such forward momentum. The only other Saturn games I can think of that match it are the Panzer games and that epic ass world map music from the extremely mediocre Albert Odyssey. I absolutely love sprites in basic 3d environments that rotate way too much or like when the character sprites can tower over fucking trees on the battlefield. Being old, I feel like I can effortlessly switch from the visuals of today to those of the past. Then there's the chunky gouraud shaded polygon battle models I'd drool over, like something from a GameFan issue. All the character archetypes are accounted for, safely tucked away in the past and free of modern tropes and current audience expectations. Just friggin shoulder, chest and flared out leg armor everywhere. The character designs are peak 90s Slayers-esque fantasy. But man, this game contains the secret sauce that makes up the perfect 90s JRPG. By the time it came out, the system was a distant memory to me. It's a shame the series was trapped on a sinking ship like the Saturn and also getting absolutely eclipsed by FF7. Let me know if you have any more questions.I haven't vibed with a JRPG like this in nearly two decades. My Windows 8 machine is, I think, SSF_012_beta_R5, which has some minor graphical issues. On my Windows 7 machine, SSF_012_beta_R3 is working perfectly. So I'd still recommend Daemon Tools Lite.Īs far as SSF, some versions are better or worse than others. I've seen people say Windows 8 and 10 have built-in mounting software, but they always gave me problems personally. Yaobuse or whatever on Android works, but I've not used it for a whole game before. I've always used SSF for Sega Saturn emulation on Windows while using Daemon Tools Lite to mount the ISO images. So now you have your legally-purchased, newly translated SFIII trilogy just waiting to be played after 20+ long years. These will create legal ISO images of newly-translated discs so you can play the latter two discs in English and fix some garbage dialogue in the 1st disc that doesn't make sense in the trilogy. You follow the directions to patch your legally-purchased US version of Disc 1 and Japanese versions of Disc 2 & 3, and possibly Premium Disc. You go to and find the SF3Translation Project. So you take your legally-purchased Shining Force III CDs. I'm just going to copy and paste what I wrote for someone else on how to emulate Shining Force 3: Yaba Sanshiro or Yaoubuse (spelling?) for Android should work for Shining Force 3. SSF for Windows will allow you to play Shining Force 3. I don't think we're allowed to tell you where to get ROMs on Reddit.įor emulators, Gens for Windows or MD.emu for Android will run Shining Force CD. r/tbs/ - Subreddit for general turn-based strategy games. r/StrategyRpg - Subreddit for the genre most Shining Force games are in.
